My Journey
Hi, I’m Shelynn (she/her)
I am an integrative Registered Psychotherapist, highly sensitive neurodivergent soul, and imperfect/ever-evolving human being who takes great pride in supporting young adults through life’s hardships and transitions.

My journey to becoming a therapist has been less than linear (with a couple of career detours along the way) and began with my own mental health struggles and challenges faced in childhood. My experiences on the other side of the “couch” have granted me the opportunity to see that real change is possible when we are able to recognize that we are deserving of support and connection.

The relationship that you have with your therapist is so important to the therapeutic process. I take great pride in providing a warm, compassionate space for collaboration, which includes a commitment to helping you feel safe, heard, and understood. I steer away from a ‘one size fits all’ approach to therapy, and strive to incorporate modalities that acknowledge the WHOLE, unique, individual person. I don’t think that therapy should be a clinical or stale experience - so, I try to keep things as real and authentic as I can. You can expect me to be approachable, compassionate, playful, and that I will likely incorporate humor throughout sessions (when appropriate of course). I want you to feel comfortable and to have a space to be authentically YOU.

“Painful feelings are, by their very nature, temporary. They will weaken over time as long as we don’t prolong or amplify them through resistance or avoidance. The only way to eventually free ourselves from debilitating pain, therefore, is to be with it as it is. The only way out is through.”
― Kristin Neff, Self-Compassion: The Proven Power of Being Kind to Yourself

A little more about me...

Balance, self-care, and connection are high priorities in my life.

I am a firm believer that work is just a piece of our lives and a piece of who we are.

I enjoy time to myself, time with loved ones, reading, drawing, painting, exploring new places, hiking & time in nature, listening to music, photography, deep breathing, scrolling through funny & creative content on TikTok, and occasionally sharing mental health content on Instagram.
I also report daily to my all-star assistants - my dogs Darla & Eddie

My Credentials, Experience & Expertise
I am a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and I hold a professional membership with the Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals.

My education began with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Guelph, steered to a brief visit with the Bachelor of Education program at Western University and some experiences in the education sphere, and eventually landed me at Yorkville University for my Masters in Counselling Psychology. From there, I began working with a counseling agency prior to opening my own practice that has helped me to narrow my focus to working with undergraduate students, graduate students, and young working adults.

I have participated in education and training on attachment, mindfulness, cognitive behavior therapy, narrative therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, emotion-focused work, LGBTQ+ and gender-affirming support, expressive arts, trauma, and deeply value continuing my education as a lifelong learner. I sign up for new workshops, obtain frequent supervision, and attend courses as I am able to in order to make sure that I am supporting people the best way I can. I am committed to providing care that is culturally sensitive, anti-racist, body-positive, LGBTQ-affirming, and neurodiversity affirming as I continue to learn from marginalized groups and individuals.
