Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do you provide psychotherapy in person or online?
My practice is entirely virtual. You can connect with me from the comfort of your own home.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
24 hours notice is required for the cancellation or rescheduling of a session. Cancellation without 24 hours notice or ‘no shows’ are charged at the full rate of a session. This policy is in place to protect both of us, as 24 hours does not give me time to fill a time slot and it helps to hold you accountable for the important work that you are putting in here. Of course, there may be emergencies or exceptions that can be taken into consideration.
  • How long is each therapy session? How many will I need?
Each session is 50 minutes in length. The number of sessions someone would benefit from varies and depends on what your hopes might be. I will give suggestions, but you are very much the ‘driver of this car’ and can decide how often you would like to connect.
  • How far in advance do I need to book?
I often encourage people to pre-book a few sessions if they feel comfortable doing so. It is often easier to cancel if need be rather than scramble to find a last-minute appointment time and have to wait a few weeks.
  • I think that my teen would benefit from therapy, but I don't think they will agree to it. Should I book them in?
Deciding to start therapy is a very personal choice. If someone does not feel ready or is not interested in attending, the process will not be effective and can be harmful. If you are a parent, I would consider reaching out to a therapist who supports parents (please do not hesitate to ask me for referrals) to discuss ways to approach and support your child.
  • Are your services covered by OHIP or insurance?
Medical doctors and psychiatrists are the only counselors that are covered by OHIP in Ontario. However, psychotherapy is covered by many employee benefits packages & student insurance packages. Please follow up with your insurance directly to learn more about your coverage. Note: If you do not have third-party insurance, the services provided by Registered Psychotherapists are tax-deductible under medical expenses on your annual tax return.
